Shell Stitch Beanie

I said I would post a free patttern, so here it is. This is a pattern for the shell stitch beanie in my previous post. I LOVE this beanie because it stitches up quickly and adds a great texture to the average beanie. The pattern here is for a 0-3 months size and a child size (3-10 years), but I hope to add in the other sizes when I find a moment. Please let me know if something doesn't work up right. As always, I would love to see pics of final creations! If you whip one of these out, please email me a picture!

**Many people have asked for assistance and help, and there IS a video tutorial available!  Click here!**

YES, FEEL FREE TO SELL ITEMS MADE FROM PATTERN!  Please do not sell the pattern, but you are more than willing to sell what you make.  Please give me the credit for the pattern.  Thanks!

Beanies

Anne Jansen does some great photography and has offered to take some pics of my beanies on adorable munchkins! These pics were from a recent shoot. I have to say that the baby here is what makes the hat look cute, and not the other way around! This little girl is so precious!
This is a shell stitch beanie pattern that I created myself. I am hoping to post this as a free pattern soon. It is simple, but the shell stitch adds so much texture. It is a nice twist to the basic beanie. Again the flower is from Action Hero. I have made many different colors that are detachable. I put a barrette on the back of the flower so that it is easily removed. It makes the hat more versatile!

Seriously though, this baby + Anne's photography + a cute baby beanie = one adorable photo!

Bows!

My friend, Emily, suggested I try making a few bows. I was putting flowers on barrettes, so making bows to put on barrettes seemed like a very obvious way to add a bit of variety to my stuff. I found a great pattern at Ravelry at Creative Yarn. I love how it turned out and I think it will add a nice touch to the items I already make in order to mix and match the hats and headbands. I did change the pattern a bit by making the center piece 2 rows wider. I just like a chunkier bow! Sorry the pics aren't the greatest. I was too excited to share them to wait to get better pics.

Marilyn Marie

My friend from college, Shawna, had asked me to make a hat for her friend's baby, Marilyn. Marilyn was born way too early and is a teeny tiny micro preemie. Shawna told me to make the hat for a 3lb baby. I used the pattern I posted in my last post. This hat was SO tiny, and it looks like the hat was even a little big for Marilyn! Looks like I might tweek my pattern for a baby this small. I just didn't realize how little their heads could be.

Anyway, Shawna took pictures of little Marilyn yesterday in the hat I made for her. It is so adorable because the hat is one of my Mega Flower Beanies and the flower is bigger than her head! The pictures remind me of how powerful God is. This baby was born way too early and so small, yet she is going to be okay. I can't imagine how someone so small can make it, but God is good and is taking care of her. She is another one of God's amazing, but teeny tiny miracles.

Shawna told me that the hat was the talk of the NICU and one of the nurses is in charge of creating the March of Dimes poster for Ann Arbor and is putting one of Shawna's pics (so exciting for her!) on the poster, AND it will be a pic of Marilyn in my hat! They also want my business card to give to families in their NICU to buy hats for their little miracles!

I have to say, that although I LOVE to crochet it makes it even more worth it when I get to see my hats on the recipients. This hat in particular has really touched me. Seeing the pictures of this little girl with tubes all around her, but with this HUGE flower on her head just brings a smile to my face. I know it is just a hat, but I hope it has brought joy to this family and that I will be able to make little Marilyn bigger hats as she grows and gets stronger.

God is so good.

Preemie Hat Pattern

Okay, I know that this is a VERY basic pattern, but I searched high and low or a good preemie pattern and came up with zilch! Every pattern I tried came out too small. I understand that preemies are teeny tiny, but the hat I made was too small for a 4lb14oz baby. So, here is a massively basic pattern for a preemie beanie. Here's to all those bitty babies born out there who just want head gear that fits!

Size: This hat is made for a 4-5lb baby. For a 2-3 lb baby remove Round 4 and 6.
Hook Size: G

Yarn: I used a basic worsted weight yarn. I don't tend to enjoy the baby yarn colors, so I like to make my patterns capable of using WW.

Round 1: Ch 4. 12 dc in first chain. Join to first dc. Ch 3 (this does not count as first dc)--12 dc

Round 2: 2 dc in same stitch and in each stitch around, join to first dc, ch3 (24 dc)

Round3: 2 dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, (2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch) around, join to first dc, ch 3--36dc

Round 4: 2 dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next 2 stitches (2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 2 stitches) around, join to first dc, ch3 --45 dc

Round 5: dc in same stitch and in each stitch around, join to first dc, ch 3--45 dc
Round 6: repeat round 5

Round 7: dc in same stitch and in each stitch around, join to first dc, ch1--45 dc

Round 8: sc in same stitch and in each stitch around, join to first sc and finish off --45 sc

Embellishment: I made up a flower and added it to give a little extra "cuteness." I found this fabulous pattern at Action Hero. I use it for EVERYTHING!

This is my first time writing up a pattern and putting it out there for the world, so PLEASE let me know if something is not written correctly. I'd love to see any creations that might be made with this pattern, so if you use it please send a pic!

Use this pattern for whatever you like, but please give me the credit. Happy crocheting!

WELCOME!

Welcome to my second blog! I felt the need to break free from my other blog (www.pbthompson.blogspot.com) in order to make this something solely about my crochet and the items I am creating. I hope to add some free patterns I have come up with, as well as show you some of the new things I make in order to get feedback. I will post pics of some stuff I have been making, and I have plans to post a pattern soon. For the time being you can find my work at my fan page on Facebook: The Dainty Daisy. You can also find me at my Etsy shop here.

Once I get a bit of free time, I will also be tweaking the look of this blog. For now, this lovely color of pink will do :-) It is sort of daisy-esque, don't you think?
